Lose Weight and Keep It Off (2602)
If you want to lose weight and keep it off, the first thing you have to do is forget the word "diet". The problem with diets is that they are usually a temporary solution to a long-term problem. Many people lose weight on low calorie diets, but they almost always gain the weight right back. There are many diets out there that claim that the key to weight loss is eliminating different foods or food groups from your diet. Health professionals know that this tactic isn't healthy. You could miss out on important nutrients by eliminating certain foods. Plus, if you eliminate foods that you love, you're bound to want to eat those foods even more when your diet is over. The best way to lose weight is by making gradual improvements in your eating habits and by exercising.
The simplest way to learn about good nutrition is by following the Food Guide Pyramid. This means that you try to adjust your diet to include more fruits, vegetables, and beans, low-fat dairy, whole grain products, and lean meats, chicken, and fish. Try to reduce the fats and sweets in your diet to leave more room for lower calorie foods. Drink plenty of water. Don't try to deny yourself the foods you love; save them for special occasions instead. Last but not least, it's important that you watch your portion sizes, especially when eating out! The keys to healthy eating are balance, variety and moderation. Exercise is just as important to weight control as healthy eating. Research has shown that any form of exercise has its benefits. So, GET MOVING! Take the stairs, walk around town, dance, be creative! You can buy exercise tapes, walk with a neighbor, or join a gym. The most important thing about exercise is that you make it enjoyable. Make the time to do it; it's that important!
Make healthy eating and exercise a family affair. Get your family members involved. Healthy eating and exercise is good for everyone, no matter what age! if everybody gets involved, it will be a lot easier to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
