Selecting a Landscape Contractor (5019)

What credentials should a professional landscape contractor have?

A professional landscape contractor should be licensed to perform whatever task is needed based on your state’s regulations. For example, to apply pesticides many states require professionals to be licensed.  Some states require that contractors have plant dealer licenses to assure you that the plants they install on your property are inspected and certified to be pest-free.

Qualified landscapers should be able to supply you with a copy of their insurance certificate to show that they carry business liability insurance. They are also required by law to carry Workers Compensation Insurance for their laborers. Beware of contractors who do not willingly supply you with this information; it might be that they have something to hide!

Additionally, companies’ memberships in professional trade organizations tells you that they are professional and educated about their vocation.
