Japanese Beetles

japanese beetle image

Japanese beetle, Popillia japonica, is one of the best-known pests to be encountered by Pennsylvania fruit growers, nursery operators, and gardeners. It is often the most important pest of tree-ripened peaches and can cause severe damage to other important crops.

Description and life cycle
Japanese beetle adults have metallic green bodies with coppery brown wing covers surrounded with 12 white tufts of hair. Eggs are pearly white, elliptical, and 1/16 inch in diameter. The soft-bodied grubs are whitish with a brown head, "C" shaped, and are 1 inch long at maturity.
